Nurturing a tranquil mind: offer help without expectations.
Stress from daily life can slow the healing process. One piece of wisdom from Chinese philosophy can help nurture tranquility when dealing with social challenges.
Most of us want to help others, especially for example if we see a loved one or friend behaving self-destructively. Well intended advice, however, is not always welcome and can result in pain for both parties.
The Daoists say, help, but don’t interfere. That is, offer your sincere help or advice gently at an opportune moment–and just once–then leave them alone and have no expectations of a specific result.
In this way, we nurture tranquility through seeking to help without causing frustration, pain or resentment. This mindset can help us heal sooner and better.
Let’s enter silence to contemplate “leave others alone after offering genuine help”
